Nepal - Bhutan 10 days Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour
Day 01: ARRIVAL KATHMANDU
Welcome to Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan intl. airport, Our representative will welcome you and assist to transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. Drive to the hotel. Enroute, we visit the Boudhanath Stupa in Boudha. Boudhanath is the largest stupa in Nepal and the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temple outside Tibet. It is the center of Tibetan culture in Kathmandu and rich in Buddhist symbolism. Over 50 Gompas surround this Stupa located in the Eastern part of Kathmandu. In the evening, transfer for the welcome dinner in one of the typical Nepalese restaurant in the heart of Kathmandu. The guide will brief the trip in the dinner. Overnight Kathmandu
Day 02: KATHMANDU TO PARO
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Bhutan. During the flight, one will experience breathtaking views of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks, including the sacred Mount Chomolhari and Jitchu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival at Paro International Airport, meet and greet. Visit the National Museum (Ta-Dzong). Once the watchtower for the Rimpung Dzong, it was converted into the National Museum in 1968. The Museum stands on a promontory overlooking the Paro valley in all its glory. Visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong. A flagstone path rises gradually from a beautiful wooden bridge with shingle roofing aneabutted by two guardhouses, to the dzong. Today, the Dzong is the seat of the district administration as well as the home for the monastic school. The central tower (Utse) of the Dzong, with the superb woodwork, is one of the most beautiful in the nation. The Dzong was built in 1645 A.D. Overnight Paro.
Day 03: PARO TO THIMPU
Drive Paro -Thimphu and after noon Visit the Memorial Chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of the third King who reigned from 1952 - 1972. Visit the National Library where ancient manuscripts are preserved. Visit the Painting School where traditional art is still preserved. Artists are taught to paint Thankas here (sacred Buddhist scroll). Visit the Handicrafts Emporium where one can buy Bhutanese textiles and other arts and crafts. Overnight Thimpu.
Day 04: THIMPUR TO PARO
Morning Visit Pangri Zampa Monastery, situated just beyond Dechencholing Palace (5kms from Thimphu). This temple was the first residence of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal when he arrived in Bhutan in 1616 A.D. It was built during the first quarter of the 16th century by Ngawang Chogyel, the great ancestor of the Shabdrung. Afternoon drive to Paro and finish the last minute shopping. Overnight Paro
Day 05: FLY BACK TO KATHMANDU
After breakfast, departure to the airport for the flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, check into the hotel. In the afternoon, drive to Pharping to visit the famous Pharping Monastery. Pharping is believed to be the place where Guru Padmasambhava attained the state of enlightment. Drive back to Kathmandu in the evening. Overnight Kathmandu.
Day 06: KATHMANDU
After breakfast, embark on a sightseeing tour around the Kathmandu valley. Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the plaza in front of the old royal palace of the Kathmandu Kingdom. The Durbar Square is surrounded with spectacular architecture and vividly showcases the skills of the Newar artists and craftsmen over several centuries. Also visit the temple of "Seto Machindranath" nearby the square. Later drive to Namo Buddha located atop a hill. Namo-Buddha is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha had once offered his life to a starving Tigress and her cubs. Namo Buddha is also one of the most famous Buddhist pilgrimage located near Kathmandu. Overnight Kathmandu
Day 07 : KATHMANDU TO LUMBINI
After breakfast ,drive to Lumbini (approx 7 hours), the sacred birth place of Lord Buddha and one of the UNESCO world heritage sites. Upon reaching Lumbini, check into the hotel. Rest of the time is free to rest. Overnight Lumbini.
Day 08: LUMBINI
After breakfast, visit all the major attractions of Lumbini; the Maya Devi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar, the Sacred Garden and the Puskani Pond. Later visit the vicinity of Maya Devi Temple in a rickshaw. You can find many Buddhist Monasteries built by many countries. Overnight Lumbini.
Day 09: LUMBINI TO KATHMANDU
After Breakfast drive back to Kathmandu enjoying the pastoral sceneries on the way. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we visit the famous Swoyambhunath Stupa, probably the most sacred site for pilgrimage in Buddhism. Enjoy the beautiful view of Kathmandu valley from Swoyambhunath. Overnight Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, check into the hotel. Rest of the time is free around Thamel area for shopping and other activities. Overnight Kathmandu
Day 10: DEPARTURE
After breakfast, transfer to the Tribhuvan Intl. Airport for the departure flight to onward destination.
